I feel much better about the state of my home after looking at this community:
http://www.livejournal.com/community/messy_rooms/

We are no where near that bad. At least we can find our couch and bed and actually use them. I've never understood loading things up on the bed actually. Even when my bedroom has been in it's most messy state ever, the bed is cleared off. Why? Cause I need to sleep in it. The last thing I want to do when tired is have to find my bed. Though I have met people who will push stuff to the side of there bed and sleep on the clean side...that amazes me too.

My day is being spent either napping...to get rid of the last of this cold. Or cleaning....to get rid of this mess.

Mainly I'm taking advantage of the husband not being home (he's gaming) to get some cleaning done. I love him...but he distracts me when I try and clean when he is home.

Oh..but back to the messy rooms community....it's kind of like that show Clean Sweep on TLC. I mainly watch the show because it makes me feel better that we are not that bad. It also just blows my mind by how much clutter people will take into their homes. I can almost understand when it's an office or den or craft space that they have been tossing all of their crap into. At least they've just made an extra room in the house an inadvertant storage area of stuff they don't really need. It's the episodes where they feature a living room or bedroom that is so over run that you can't find the bed, the couch or even a place to walk. On one recent episode there was a four foot tall cow statue in the living room, and a foos ball table on top of the couch...I'm not sure when placing either of those items in a living room would ever make sense.

This is why my belief is two pack rats should NEVER be allowed to live together....and one pack rat living alone can be a danger.

Oh sure...it is annoying to those of us who love to throw things away to live with a pack rat...but at least some balance can be achieved. My Mom and Dad are examples of this. Sure there house looks nice and neat and tidy...due to the hard work of my Mom. It also looks a bit lived in...thanks to the not-so-hard work of my Dad. However, there are a bunch of items in that house that I know will probrably hit the trash before my Dad hits the ground if he goes before my Mom. And if Mom goes first? Well...it may be in his best intrest to hire a maid. But the two of them together....makes for a pretty healthy balance.

Which is what I'm shooting for. I don't need to live in a museum...I just want to always know what color my carpet is. :)

Go Mom!

Was chit-chatting with Mom this evening...and she's going to send out some money for the travel system we need (for those without kids....a travel system is a stroller, infant carseat, infant carrier combo).

Yay!

So that's one less major purchase that we don't need to worry about. :)
