spookygrrrly: (zombie new years)
Yesterday [livejournal.com profile] sarrabellum and I met up for lunch finally (it's only been 2 months since I've seen her in person). She was taking me out for a belated birthday lunch so we headed out to Greenwood Ave and ate at Olive You. Heatherann has been telling me for months how wonderful they are so I figured it would be a good place for lunch.

It was awesome. The food was great. We shared this cheese appetizer that was a breaded and fried goat cheese which is then covered in Ouzo and lit on fire at the table. (sweet) Then we both had the falafal plate which is very good and quite filling. Definatly a place I'd go back to.

After chatting for a while we decided to head out for coffee. However between us and the coffee shop was...
...Balderdash Books and Art. We figured we'd pop in real quick just for a look around.

Yeah well almost an hour later we emerged. Sarra with two books and me with only one. Which honestly for us really is awesome. I would have been able to resist too if it wasn't that Sarra showed me a copy of Betty Crocker's New Picture Cook Book in a first edition and awesome quality. It was $20 but I knew if I didn't pick it up I'd be kicking myself for ages. It is the most wonderful cookbook ever! There are sections on:
Hints for the Homemaker: With advice like "Have a weekly plan for scheduling such tasks as washing, ironing, baking, shopping, cleaning the refrigerator or washing the floors. One task done each day provides a sense of accomplishment and keeps work from piling up."
Types of Table Service: There seem to be two types Family Service (suitable for the average family) and Formal Service (suited to the household with a servant).
How to set an attractive table at mealtime
And even menu planning ideas: They even offer some exotic ideas under the "Dinners From Foreign Lands". Such as from Mexico the menu is: Black Bean Dip with crisp crackers, Enchiladas, Avocado Salad and Fresh Fruit Platter. Viva Mexio!

Did I mention that this cook book was first published in 1961?
I love it so.

After leaving the bookstore we finally made it to the coffee shop for something warm to drink and more chatting.

Finally I had to get going since I had RCIA class to get too (I'm on the teaching team this year).

I had a great day and I definatly need to hang out with Ms.Sarra much more often!
